Ninth Ward House - Lyrics

crawfish

oh yes the crawfish a' comin'
gonna’ be a pile on the table
now get your own self ready
to eat all that you're able
      'cause you know
      that you're gonna' come back
      fo’ mo’
so go on an' suck those heads
'till there's a pile on the floor
      up to your knees
an' then you waddle on out the door
oh yeah the crawfish a' comin'
gonna’ be another pile on the table

      now the gators a' comin'
      people dancin' on the tables
      gators all around the floor
      ain't eatin' crawfish no mo'
      'cause they know
      that you gonna' come back
      fo’ mo’
they will grab you by the head
an' pull you down on the floor
or cut you off at the knees
as you waddle on out the door
oh yeah the crawfish a' comin'
gonna’ be another pile on the table

gator drag you to the river
an’ then they pull you way down under
      chompin' down all big pieces
      crawfish get what's left over
      an' they know
      gator's gonna' go back
      for mo'
is the fear swimmin' round in yo' head
while yo' belly growls out for mo'
      are you caught by indecision
while the gators lock all the doors
and now the crawfish a' comin'
gonna’ be another pile on the table

now we all eat or get eaten
until we push away the table
or get laid out on the floor
      ain’t eatin’ crawfish no mo’
      and you know
      that you ain’t coming back
      fo’ mo’
so if you feel somthing grabbin’ your head
to try and pull you down on the floor
better get off your hands and knees
and make your way out the closest door
oh yeah the crawfish a' comin'
gonna’ be another pile on the table
and now the gators a' comin'
they gonna' eat you and they're able

summer sun

we’re disbelieving when the hurricane arrives apocalyptically
fear realized there is no need to feign as the gales arrive from the sea
when the gales arrive from the sea
we have no plan to go evacuate as the waves hit the shore
we run but do not make a safe escape and my life is no more
      my life is no more

when thoughts of you loved ones come calling,
hold their memories in your hearts with care
say a prayer for those who have fallen
and remember the time you once shared
remember the good times that you shared

brackish water flooded streets around neighborhoods where we grew
no water, power, all the lines had gone down and disaster gave us its due
on wings of death it crashed on through
time passes so slowly after winds have won the race with those on the shore
some made it safely other lives came undone some were sick and some were poor
those that died were mostly poor

when thoughts of you loved ones come calling,
hold their memory in your heart with care
say a prayer for those who have fallen
and remember the time you once shared
remember the good times that you shared

we all were sleeping in the summer sun when tears began to rain
you woke but did not stir cause you were numb thinking about the love that we gave
remembering the love that we made
don’t blame the living for the fate of the dead, don’t blame the dead for your pain
i know you’re lonely all alone in your bed and the hole in your heart still remains
the hole in your heart still remains

when thoughts of you loved ones come calling,
hold their memories in your hearts with care
say a prayer for those who have fallen
and remember the time you once shared
remember the good times that you shared

this one time

“i am older than you, i’ll bet”, he said,
“we’ve got something in common with our shiny heads
i need three more dollars for just this night’s bed
can you please spare a nickel or a dime?
i will then rejoin you, ‘thank you sir for your time’.”

i’m hopin’ your heart still has a small clue
i don’t want to be here and neither do you
givin’ green or some jingle won’t make you too blue
can you please spare a nickel or a dime?
i will only be asking you just for this time

there’s three for each job, i ain’t worked in so long
it’s tough getting work when you ain’t got a home
i’ve surrendered my dignity and I’m so all alone
hesitant hands that you can help save
and help keep my feet from slipping down in the grave

the wind is blowing my skin cold so bare
there’s a goose bump all over where their ain’t any hair
please don’t look away from me like you don’t even care
can you please spare a nickel or a dime?
i will only be asking you just this one time

waiting on you

the sun is hot and it is beating down
the ground is dry and the cracks abound
i don’t know if you are going to be ever be found
but i’ll be waiting on you
the air is thick and it’s pushing in
fingers being drawn for non-original sin
and i know i need you and i know where to begin
      i’ll be waiting on you

when your smile made me love you
i said to you, “darlin’, do you want to be two”?
i don’t think i can live without you
          now you’re gone
and i’ll be waiting on you, un huh
          i’ll be waiting on you

the birds are flying south today
they won’t be back ‘till some time next May
if you gotta’ leave me honey, i got something to say
      i’ll be waiting on you
the sand is swirling like a funeral pyre
my soul is burning with the flames of desire
and they just can’t get any hotter or higher
      i’ll be waiting on you

i know now you really do love me
even though you said so when we said our i dos
all i got are the stars up above me
          now you’re gone
          you’re gone
and i’ll be waiting on you, un huh
          i’ll be waiting on you

i want you to hold me in your arms again
to feel your fingertips on the top of my skin
to watch you hips move … there i go again
      i’ll be waiting on you

i long for the way you reach out and touch me
leaving all those feelings like indelible clews
you were the star that i held up above me
          now you’re gone,
i’ll be waiting on you, un huh
          i'll be waiting on you

      an' he got right on
      with this blue-eyed blonde
her dress barely kept her inside
Jill was busting out all with all of her pride

      well, before you know it
      de bump and de grind
had loosened the grip on my Jack
and i landed on Jill and' you can say what you will
but i ain't never ever ever goin' back to Jack
no i ain't never, never, never going back

well, my Jill is a winner
      some say she's a sinner
i love her jus' the same an' no less
she is buxom and curvy and voluptuously worthy
of the lovin' she gets with caress
i love her 'cause she is the best
